CanVeer Biopharma is a privately owned pre-clinical biopharmaceutical startup advancing innovative therapeutics for chronic respiratory diseases with high unmet medical need. CanVeer’s lead program, AlveoShield™, an investigational new drug candidate, is being developed to potentially prevent and treat Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD). BPD is a severe chronic respiratory condition affecting preterm born infants who require oxygen support at birth to survive, however, the life saving oxygen causes permenant damage to the newborn's fragile lungs and lead to BPD. In North America annually there are over 140,000 preterm born infants at risk to develop BPD. Currently, there is no approved therapy to prevent or treat BPD. AlveoShield™ is designed to block the underlying molecular pathway driving lung injury, preventing BPD development and hence allowing normal lung development.
