Neopara Materials embeds sustainability into silicone elastomers by incorporating waste materials without compromising silicone performance. The impressive properties of silicone elastomers are compromised by a very high carbon footprint for their manufacture. Inexpensive ground tire rubber from used automobile tires acts as a semi-reinforcing filler in silicone elastomers after surface modification using Neopara’s patent pending technology to produce HPP particles. HPP is a complementary filler to those currently used by manufacturers and is simply added during formulation. The reduction in carbon footprint is accompanied by a reduction in product costs. Materials testing has demonstrated that material properties (tensile strength, Young’s modulus) improve with the addition of HPP and the products pass requisite performance tests for use in (Green) buildings, including flammability; water resistance; and adhesion. Neopara Materials HPP can significantly reduce the carbon footprint and cost of silicone elastomers, while diverting waste and enhancing silicone sustainability.
