What do we do

ViroCarb is a Toronto-based biotechnology company focused on developing antiviral drugs through a unique platform that exploits viruses' reliance on host cells for replication. With over 12 years of collaboration with leading Canadian universities, ViroCarb aims to address the urgent need for new antiviral strategies to meet the rising global demand and combat the emergence of drug-resistant viruses. There is a critical need for innovative antiviral treatments. Current options primarily target a narrow range of related viruses by focusing on virus-encoded functions. The rapid evolution of viruses has led to the emergence of drug-resistant variants, undermining the effectiveness of most approved antiviral medications. Therefore, exploring alternative therapies is essential as the demand for effective antiviral treatments continues to grow. Unmet medical needs persist, and we anticipate that our drug candidate will be effective against viruses that currently lack approved antiviral treatments, including potential future pandemic viruses. The limitations of existing therapies, coupled with the ongoing prevalence of emerging and re-emerging respiratory viral infections, create significant market opportunities for a new class of antiviral drugs that offer advantages over current treatments. Our innovative approach disrupts viral RNA processing, enabling us to move beyond targeting individual viruses. This multi-viral therapy has demonstrated effectiveness against key pathogens such as HIV-1, adenoviruses, coronaviruses, and influenza, exhibiting high oral bioavailability and minimal toxicity in mice. We are committed to providing effective treatments for viruses that lack approved antivirals and addressing the increasing incidence of viral infections
